Cork Crazy

April 11, 2011

When your artsy side speaks, don’t ignore it; pamper it by giving in to it. Every once in a while, a girl’s gotta turn down those high-society invites, slip into some comfy sweats, break out a bottle of wine and the glue gun and satisfy her eco-crafty side. Oh, and don’t throw out the wine cork from that bottle ‘cause all of these fun ideas below make great use of those natural wine stoppers.

Wine cork place card holder It doesn’t get any easier than this little craft that will make you the oh-so clever hostess. If you’ve got an X-acto knife and some wine corks, you can whip up place card holders from used wine corks quickly and impress all your guests. These would be super-playful at a casual dinner party or a bridal shower.

Mulled wine spice bag DIY gifts at the holidays make you look like a gift giving rockstar if they’re actually useful. Make your friends something useful for a cold winter’s night – wine mulling spices bags. The spices are placed inside a cloth or cheesecloth bag that’s tied with jute and a wine cork. The entire bag gets thrown into the wine as it’s mulling (the cork makes the bag float during the process). If you want to inspire your friends to actually make mulled wine, give this with a bottle of Merlot and some instructions. If it’s the thought that counts when you give a gift, you’re besties will love how thoughtful your were with this one.

Wine cork bath mat Make yourself a groovy, one-of-a-kind bathmat that’s made from natural, repurposed cork. For this craft, you’re going to need a little help from your friends. To collect the over 175 corks you’ll need, get on Facebook and ask your 300 BFF’s to save their corks for the next couple of weeks for you. Bonus – you’ll end up with a wide variety of corks and that will make you look like ultra-savvy about wine (and you don’t have to tell anyone you’re not).

Love to see what you come up with……post it here!
