If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, there’s no way you could have missed the fact that I just had my very first trunk show at the iconic Henri HYPERLINK “http://www.henribendel.com/”Bendel store on Fifth Ave in NYC. For seven days, I had the privilege of introducing the world to Jing Ai from a prominent placement in the store, and it was amazing!
I began my week early on Monday morning, excited about my opportunity to sell in Bendels, thinking to myself, “It doesn’t get better than this.” When my husband John and I arrived at the store, we were taken to the area where I would set up my trunk show. The spot was front and center! We were allowed to set up however we wanted. I was slightly concerned about my lack of experience in this area, but after an hour and a half of setting up, I looked and was pleased to see we did a great job.
Bendels had a huge fruit display that was larger than life set up right behind my area – a perfect complement to my natural, organic, healthy-for-your-skin Jing Ai brand. When I looked at my completed set up with the fruit display as a backdrop, I realized this was it. This was the exact moment I’d been striving for with all my hard work over the past two years.
Before I knew it, it was 10am, music filled the store, the doors opened to the Henri Bendel store on Fifth Ave. People began to scatter through the store. My heart was racing, but I felt contentment. This was my opportunity to tell my story of Pure Love to anyone willing to listen. Within the first hour, I made some sales and spoke with some lovely people.
Each day of the trunk show, I sold more and more products and shared my story with people from all over the world. Okay, this is going to sound cliché since I’m putting into words how I felt, but there don’t seem to be any words that accurately describe how I felt. People from all over the world listened to my story, were touched by my enthusiasm, and wanted to support me and Jing Ai.
The hardest part of the week for me was leaving my sons at home while I spent the week in New York City. I’d never left them for seven whole days before. On Friday, my husband showed up at Bendels with my boys in tow. During a week of highlights, that was the biggest highlight of all. I got to see the look in my sons’ eyes when they finally understood what I’ve been working for over the past two years. They were proud of me.
By Friday, it had been already been along exciting week, but it wasn’t over yet. My boys’ visit gave me the energy I needed to finish out my trunk show over the busy New York City weekend.
With one of my besties by my side, I call her Valley Girl, I began my last day on Sunday at twelve noon. After a nice breakfast and a final application of lip gloss, we braced ourselves for the final day of sales. I knew I needed to close the day with big sales, and I succeeded!
My last sale of the day came at 6:45pm, and for me it was an incredibly symbolic sale. A beautiful woman on her last day of vacation from Japan allowed me to make her up and tell her my story. She bought some of my products, and told me she was going to take the wildflower paper home to Japan and plant it. My story, products, and flowers are traveling half way around the world as I type this!
I want to thank all my friends and family that came to help, visit and buy products, and of course I want to thank John and the boys for supporting me over the week (and the past two years!).
Finally, I need to say a huge thank you to Henri Bendel. Thank you for allowing me to stand in your beautiful jewel box store for seven days to share my story of Pure Love with your customers. My life will never be the same.
