Today is my birthday! I remember when I was in my 20s and March 20th would roll around, I never wanted to celebrate. I tried to treat it just like just another day because I did not want to get another year older! I was blessed with good genes from my mother, and my face didn’t tell my age. Why should I tell it?
Guess what? As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned to appreciate my birthday because it’s an opportunity for me to have a celebration with the people I love. I am thankful for every birthday that I get to have now. Twenty-something me might have thought that when I reached a certain age and I saw little lines on my face, I’d be horrified. But I’m not! Those lines, they give me character. They’re evidence of tens of thousands of smiles and a few well-earned tears. I’m not interested in turning back the clock to when I was in my 20s. I celebrate being in my 40s. I have experienced a lot of life. I’ve learned my birthday should be celebrated and enjoyed by all who love me.
Someday, a long time from now, when I’m a content old lady sitting in my rocking chair, I will cherish the memories of many birthdays come and gone. I’ll be thankful for them. I’m thankful for them now. On my birthday, I have a wish for you. I wish that you all celebrate your birthday and when you blow your candles out, you dream big! Be thankful for the blessing of your life. Happy Birthday to me!
