Don’t you just love it when you find one fashionable accessory that you know is going to be the talk of every room of fashion lovers you walk into? Maybe it’s the perfect pair of leather boots or a one-of-a-kind necklace you bought from an artisan at a street fair. This fall, for me, I have a feeling my big conversation starting piece is going to be the
Wiltshire Carry All bag by Kempton & Co.
Take a look at it and tell me, wouldn’t you walk up to the gal carrying it and say, “I absolutely love your bag! Where did you get it?” You would, wouldn’t you?I love the look of the Wiltshire Carry All, but I also like the eco-friendliness of this perfect-for-fall bag. It’s made from recycled jute with leather accents
made from scraps of lambskin used for other apparel and bags. It’s a conversation piece that can start two types of conversations that I love – one about fashion and one about sustainability. When you have the two conversations side by side, you end up getting to talk about sustainable fashion.
I’ve mentioned sustainable handbags before when I pointed you to some of my fave vegan handbag designers. Obviously, the Wiltshire Carry All isn’t vegan, but by using the scraps of lambskin leftover from other apparel and bags, the designer is using material that otherwise would have gone to waste. There’s a term for using this type of material in manufacturing. It’s pre-consumer waste recycling. Pre-consumer waste is waste from manufacturing processes that gets recycled into other products instead of ending up in a landfill.
This bag actually helps to keep waste out of landfills. You gotta love that! What’s the conversation piece you’ll be adding to your personal accessories this fall?
