"O Pho and Cabernet"

October 17, 2013

A steaming bowl of goodness – that’s what I call Pho. There’s a Pho restaurant nearby my house here in South Jersey,

Pho Barclay, that my family and I eat at once a week. We love, love, love it. It is the perfect, healthy, casual, absolutely friendly dining place.

I’m not sure if Pho is as big all over the U.S. as it is here in South Jersey and Philly, so if you’re not sure what it is, let me tell you. Pho is Vietnamese noodle soup made with rice noodles and herbs. You can get it with just veggies (my favorite) or with meat – beef, chicken, pork, shrimp… Add a few spring or summer rolls to the order, and it’s a satisfying meal that my entire family enjoys. The food at Pho Barclay is really good, and I appreciate that it’s a BYOB – we can bring our favorite wine or beer to enjoy with dinner while keeping the price reasonable.

Now, I could do a whole bunch of research and find out which wine and beer pair the best with Pho or Vietnamese food, but you know what? I’m a drink-what-I-like kind of gal. I take a nice bottle of Cabernet with me or some deeply flavorful ale, pop it open and enjoy. I think some people worry about which wine or beer to bring to a BYOB because they don’t know what they’re going to order and they want the perfect pairing. Let me tell you, the perfect pairing is the wine you love with the food you love.

I love Pho Barclay’s food. I love my Cabernet. They’re perfect together.

When you head out to a BYOB, do you bring your favorite bottle or the bottle you think is “right?”
