Family holiday tradition: Our favorite movies

December 12, 2013

It’s a fabulously busy holiday season for me. I am not complaining. I’ve been meeting wonderful people and telling my Jing Ai story to so many of them. But, I’m making sure to get down time with my family, too, because being with them is one of the most important things about this holiday season.

We make sure to take some time where we gather in the living room and watch our favorite Christmas movies and TV specials. When I was a little  girl, the Christmas specials came on once a year and if you missed them, you missed them. Now we’re fortunate enough to be able to watch anything any time we want – sometimes even more than once during the holiday season. My boys will never know the disappointment of walking into school and finding out they’re the only ones who missed Rudolph the night before. That’s a good thing.

Here are some of the favorites at our house. Every year, you’ll find us watching these classics in front of the TV with a tray of cookies and mugs of hot chocolate.

A Christmas Story – Ralphie and his Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle never fail to entertain at Christmastime.

The Grinch Who Stole Christmas – We’re mesmerized from the moment that Boris Karloff says, “The Grinch hated Christmas” till he says the words “roast beast.” It wouldn’t be Christmas without a viewing of The Grinch.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer – I don’t know which misfit I love more, Rudolph or Herbie, the elf who wants to be a dentist.

The Polar Express – Is this one too new to be a classic? My boys don’t think so and neither do I.

It’s a Wonderful Life – It’s a wonderful movie that warms our hearts and puts us all in a giving spirit.

I do hope that as the holiday grows closer, you take some time slow down, snuggle up with a loved one or two, and watch one of your favorite Christmas movies. Which movie will you be watching while you’re snuggling?

Pure Love Grows XOXOXO
