I love it when creativity and innovation solve everyday problems. My friend Jeongwood Eun loves it, too, and she helps people with new ideas get those ideas out there. She recently interviewed Lori Cheek who will be a contestant on Shark Tank this Friday, February 28, and I just had to make you aware of this innovative entrepreneur.
Lori has created Cheek’d, a business that solves one of the most common everyday problems – how to find someone you want to go on a date with. It’s a dating website that helps you connect with people that catch your eye in person, not online. Sound confusing? It’s actually quite simple. You create a profile on Cheek’d. Then, Cheek’d sends you business-like cards that are printed with interest-catching phrases, a link to the website and a code that takes the eye-catching person to your Cheek’d profile.
When you see someone you’d like to meet at a party, a bar, the student union or wherever, you can hand them one of your Cheek’d cards. Choose one that says “I’m totally cooler than your date” or “since you can’t read my mind” – or another simple short saying to pique someone’s curiosity. Then you just walk away. If the person is interested, they’ll look you up on Cheek’d when they get home (or if they’re really interested, they’ll pull out their smartphone and check you out right then are there).
It’s been a very long time since I’ve had to navigate the dating world, but I do know there’s little new when it comes to finding someone you want to have dinner and drinks with. Cheek’d is that rare, new thing in the dating world. I think it’s a really cool idea and I have such huge support this young lady Lori Cheek and her creative entrepreneurial spirit.
So, this Friday, watch Shark Tank and route for Lori and Cheek’d.
