I have such respect for Look Good Feel Better program. The organization is dedicated to improving the self-esteem and quality of life of cancer patients by teaching them beauty techniques when diagnosed with cancer. All of their services are free to the patients, and it’s my privilege to be one of the thousands of volunteers that work with the organization.
I educate these brave women on what will happen to their hair, nails and skin while they undergo their cancer treatments. As a licensed cosmetologist, I help them learn how to use makeup to mask some of the negative effects those treatments have on their appearance. At the end of their session, each woman is given a kit with various brands of makeup, and she can take all the products home with her. The volunteer work I do with these women makes my heart smile.
Earlier this week I got to celebrate the great work that Look Good Feel Better does. The organization held a Dream Ball in New York City, celebrating 25 years of all the good they’ve done. Margarita Arriagada, Chief Merchant at Sephora, Inc. and television host Dr. Mehmet Oz were honored as two outstanding leaders in beauty and wellness at the ball. John my husband and I attended the Dream Ball After Dark party. What a party it was. The horderves and cocktails were flowing all night long. The reception continued until midnight.
Dressed to the nines for this black tie affair, I had the chance to speak with many iconic cosmetic brand creators and owners. I love getting the chance to chat with those whose footsteps I’m following in. The clothes and shoes at the event were to die for!. I also got to chat with Dr. Oz for a bit. It’s always a pleasure to be able to talk with him when I get the chance. He has a way of making everyone he comes in contact with feel special!
The entire evening was magical. I look forward to next year’s party when I have another chance to honor this organization that has helped over 900,000 cancer patients so far.
