Why I Love Mee Beauty

August 18, 2015

I have another great beauty product business to tell you about from my time at the AmericasMart Gift Show in Atlanta last month. Mee Beauty was founded by New York City bee keeper Ruth Harrigan. She runs the business with her husband Matt. Ruth harvests honey from her bees to make her products with what she calls liquid gold.

Ruth has 9 beehives in Douglaston, Queens and on an organic farm on Staten Island. The honey she collects from those hives is used as one of the all-natural ingredients in Mee Beauty’s lip balms, baby body washes, night creams, shampoos and more. Ruth’s a giver, too. She works with 1% for the Planet and donates one percent of all her sales to help save the bees from Colony Collapse Disorder.

Did you know honey is very beneficial for skin and hair?  Woman’s Health Magazine says honey helps moisturize, fight against aging and fight bacteria. It’s also loaded with nutrients, antioxidants, and healing compounds. It’s a perfect and natural ingredient for beauty products. And, of course, it’s also a yummy natural sweetener.

Mee Beauty also sells edible honey, and the labels have cute notes like “You Rock Honey” and “Let’s Get Lucky Honey.” I love to drizzle honey on my toast or use it to sweeten my tea. Green tea with a little honey before bed is one way I wind down from my busy days.

Ruth says on her website that being with her bees is meditative which allows her to reboot from a busy week. Sign me up!  I’m thrilled that she and Matt live in New York so my family and I can visit them and do a little meditating with the bees ourselves.
